Monica Grove

Monica Grove is a mansion-terraced building situated in a suburb of Manchester, identical to the other mansion terraced buildings in the road and does not stand out as different from any other ‘family-style’ home in the road.

There are no obvious features that identify it as a children's home. It is approximately three miles from Manchester Town Centre and within easy reach of leisure and social facilities and places of religious observance.

Young people can travel to Manchester via train on Northern Trains, which is approximately 21 mins. Alternatively, they can catch either the 197 or 50 buses which take around half an hour. The home is located on a very quiet ‘end- of- street' location in a diverse community; the home is a ‘family style’ 3-bed home with 2 additional staff bedrooms. The home has a small courtyard to the rear of the building where a variety of activities can be conducted leading through the back gate is a communal passageway where the bins are located; it is gated at either end to ensure security to the back of the home.

The ground floor comprises of a modern living room, open plan kitchen/diner and downstairs toilet. Monica Grove is a red brick building identical to the other houses on the street and does not stand out from the rest, this is something we have thought significantly about. We have a ring doorbell, not an intercom system; like many families have now and it ensures security without differentiating us from other family homes.

Monica Grove has excellent transport links including a train station two minutes' walk from the home, bus routes and times are frequent enabling young people to access some amazing leisure activities such as: Arcadia Library and Leisure Centre that has a gym, pools, library and computers that are free to access. There is also a community arts centre with arts and cultural activities, youth friendly space and performance, music and events that celebrate our November 2021 Locality Risk Assessment –Monica Grove community.

Shores Fold Community Farm is a hidden gem in the heart of the area, where you can feed the animals, enjoy the play area and have a picnic. There's also a local community-led organisation which brings people together from many backgrounds to transform our area through community activity, creativity, enterprise and fun. We are uniquely placed to support our young people to have a sense of community and take pride in their area, feeling like they are a part of something bigger than us.
